April 30, 2019
On Friday, April 26th, Taylor Swift released the anticipated music video for her new single, “ME!” She has been teasing fans with the date “4.26” (her lucky number) for thirteen days. Swift has been releasing candy-colored images on her Instagram, which turned out to be scenes from the music video; as well as a countdown clock on her website which lead fans to speculate she would be releasing new music.
More than 418,000 loyal fans tuned in live to watch the video, which Swift co-directed with Dave Meyers. The video has already earned an impressive 100 million views on YouTube after it’s short release. The video received 65.2 million views within its first 24 hours, giving Swift the platform’s largest single-day debut for a solo female artist.
“ME!” marks a new era in Taylor Swift’s musical career. She made a bubbly, colorful return which contrasts from the abstract vibes of her last two albums: “1989” and “Reputation.” The video showcases a side of her fans have yet to see.
To mark her impactful return, Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie will perform “ME!” for the first time to open the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on May 1.
“I think that with a pop song, we have the ability to get a song stuck in people’s heads,” Swift said. “I just want it to be one that makes them feel better about themselves.”
