Prime Minister of India, Modi, and Donald Trump Gather for “Howdy, Modi!” Houston Event
September 27, 2019
On Sunday, September 22nd, the Prime Minister of India and President Donald Trump visited Houston, Texas for a rally. Over 50,000 Indian Texans showed up for the “Howdy, Modi” event at the NRG Stadium.
The event started with breathtaking performances lead by many different dance groups from across Texas. For 90 minutes, 400 performers from various performance schools and universities dance, sang and performed yoga on stage before the official ceremony began. Unfortunately, some people were unable to come due to the flooding in the Houston area, but many people all over Texas and even the country showed up just for this historically significant moment.
Afterwards, government officials representing different U.S. states such as Texas’ senator, Ted Cruz, introduced themselves to the audience. They briefly introduced the Prime Minister and their experience with him. After an extended wait, Modi showed up on stage to meet his crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
Shortly after Modi arrived and gave a brief introduction on the unity of India and America, Trump took to the stage. He greeted Modi and spoke to further establish the bond between their two countries. This was his chance to persuade the large number of Indians that were present at the event and those tuning in on TV to vote for him. He wanted to garner votes for his 2020 presidential election and he did so by enticing the audience with a promise: to keep India as America’s close friend.
Trump spoke about a variety of topics such as the vast number of Indian-Americans and it’s importance for our country, how important Texas is to the economic growth of America and Modi being someone he truly admires.
“I’m so thrilled to be here in Texas with one of America’s greatest, most devoted and most loyal friends, Prime Minister Modi of India,” President Trump told the crowd.
There was one thing highlighted in the speeches of both leaders which shows that they seem to agree on one thing: to put a stop to terrorism and control borders.
“Both India and US also understand that to keep our communities safe, we must protect our borders,” Trump said.
“Time has come for a decisive battle against terrorism,” PM Modi said.
The two most importantly used this stage to particularly emphasize on the friendship they have as great leaders and great nations. They wanted to highlight the strong bond and trust between India and America, which they successfully did so. Both leaders were met with an infinite amount of support. The rally was successful for both India, America, their leaders and it’s citizens.
