5 Minute Q&A With The Homecoming Court

Homecoming is a special event for high school students, where the alumni return home to watch the football game and a dance to celebrate. But, it’s a distinct type of special for the homecoming court. Here’s an insight to their point of view, with our Sophomore Duke and Duchess, Jake Whitley and Alyssa Miller. Along with the Prince nominee, Aiden Sharp and the Queen nominee, Caroline Taylor. 

How did you feel when you won/lost? 

Alyssa Miller: “I was so thrilled when I received the title. The moment I heard my name on stage will always be one to remember. Like I said, it’s really an honor to represent Cy Ranch, and I appreciate all of the support from everyone that voted for me. I feel like all of my hard work paid off, and I can’t even put into words how thankful I am. Earning the title was like the cherry on top to a great homecoming. It made the night even better.”

Aiden Sharp: “It was nice to feel that my friends and even people weren’t well acquainted liked me enough to vote me onto the court.” 

How important is this title to you?

 Aiden Sharp: “Whether or not I won having been on the court was enough for me, so no the title wasn’t very important to me.” 

What are some factors of why you won/lost?

Alyssa Miller: “I would say there are multiple reasons for me winning. First, I would say that I am well known in the sense that I am very talkative and willing to meet new people. I always try to be as nice as possible to others, so maybe that helped me. Second, I’m involved in many different school activities. I’m in choir and soccer, so I told as many people as I could that are in those organizations as well. Lastly, I think I just put more effort in campaigning than the other people that ran. I would tell all of my friends to spread the word about me running, and along with that, I would also walk around in the mornings and talk to people I’ve never met before. I think all of these actions helped make everyone aware that I was running which helped me get nominated and eventually helped me win.”

Was homecoming a memorable experience? Why or Why not? 

Jake Whitley: “It was definitely a great experience to have, not only for myself but also for all my friends and fellow students who helped me win. I’m really glad that I was able to represent the sophomore class along with the rest of the sophomore homecoming court especially at the start of what’s going to be a great year.  Winning Sophomore Duke was really awesome and I was very excited. It was surreal, I was really happy that I won. Hearing everyone cheer for me and call my name was just mind blowing. It was a moment that I’m never going to forget. It was one of the highlights of my high school experience.” 

Aiden Sharp: “Oh, it was memorable because those DJs…those were the worst DJs, the worst.” 

Did you think you were going to win?

Jake Whitley: “I didn’t. I thought there was an equal chance of us all winning. Justin and Cole are both great guys and I would’ve been happy for either of them if they had won.” 

Aiden Sharp: “ I expected it to me be or Jesen Wester because we got the most cheers at the pep rallies and on the football field. But it wasn’t either of us.” 

Alyssa Miller: “Honestly, it was pretty unexpected. I just decided to give it a try and run because it seemed fun. It wasn’t until I got nominated that I really started campaigning though, and when Mrs. Chandler said my name on stage, I was actually shocked. It was crazy. I’m so grateful that I was given the opportunity to represent the school.” 

Caroline Taylor: “As much as an honor it would have been to win, the court was filled with an abundance of deserving,kind hearted, talented individuals. I think everyone has a great chance, and deserved to be recognized as they were”

Would you run again next year? 

Jake Whitley: “I definitely would. It is a student nominated process, so if the class of 2022 wanted to nominate me again, I would totally run. It is a very fun thing to do.”

Alyssa Miller: “Of course! I would run next year without a doubt. I would do it again because it was so fun to be a part of it all. I mean, don’t get me wrong, homecoming is exciting on its own, but the fact that I was on the homecoming court just made homecoming and homecoming week even better. I was able to make so many new friends and participate in so many cool events, so I think I’d definitely want to run for princess.”

Aiden Sharp: “ I don’t know.”
