Whataburger vs. In-N-Out

I grew up eating In-N-Out for the majority of my life. Since I’m originally from Las Vegas, I have never had Whataburger before. Since moving to Texas, I have been eager to try the famous fast food restaurant. Numerous times, I have driven past the local restaurant afraid to eat it because I simply don’t like to try new food. I eventually decided it wouldn’t hurt to try, so I recently visited my local Whataburger and had the courage to grab a meal. To get the full experience, I went inside instead of using the drive-through. Here is my personal opinion on Whataburger, from the perspective of a non-Texan.

I was immediately disappointed by the interior because it smelt like bleach and I found the colors disturbing. On the bright side, the employees were extremely friendly and greeted me when I walked in. Service was a little slow, but I went ahead and ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, cheese, and ketchup only. Before I took my first bite, I lifted up the top bun on my burger to make sure my order was correct. They did get it right. However, It looked extremely dry with soggy lettuce. I was afraid that the face I made looking at it would give away my feeling of disgust. Still, I gave it a try because I hoped it would taste better than it looked. 

I chomped down on my burger and immediately gagged. It tasted like a basic, unseasoned homemade burger. In addition, their fries were absolutely disgusting. It was not what I expected it to taste like. I thought it would have been way more flavorful, and I am honestly saddened and disappointed. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give this place a 2. Whataburger is not worth the hype it is given! I think it’s so overrated.

Something that is often compared to Whataburger is In-N-Out: a fast-food chain similar to Whataburger that is mainly located on the west coast. Everytime I go to Las Vegas, I always get it just because it’s that good. As soon as you walk in, you get invited by the smell of freshly toasted buns. Unlike Whataburger, which smells like bleach and clorox wipes. The employees have a big smile on their face and are always happy to serve you. The people in the kitchen move really fast, so the wait isn’t that long, while in Whataburger the wait is 10 minutes. The burgers are extremely mouth-watering and it tastes like heaven.

As soon as you take your first bite, the warm cheese melts in your mouth and the toasted buns add on to the glory you are tasting. The first bite I had at Whataburger almost made me throw up. Their fries also taste amazing. They are freshly made; you can see them being cut and fried in the kitchen which makes them delicious. In-N-Out is definitely worth the hype. If you crave a burger in the middle of the night, don’t worry, In-N-Out’s got you covered. They are available late hours of the night too! If you are a burger fan I highly recommend this place. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give this place a 9 ½, despite the fact the lines are usually long in the drive thru. The closest In-N-Out will be located in Katy, Texas opening before 2020! If you don’t believe me you can try it yourself, it’s coming near you! My unpopular opinion matters. I recommend every burger fan to try it as soon as possible if you haven’t already.
