Joe Biden 2021 Inauguration
January 21, 2021
Yesterday, on January 20th, our nation participated in the Inauguration ceremony to pass on the title of President and Vice President. President Joe Biden attended the ceremony with the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and his family, while Vice President Kamala Harris attended with the Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, and her family.
Accompanying the President and Vice President during the ceremony were many former presidents, current political figures, and renowned singers and poets. Among the audience were also Former Vice President Pence and the Former Second Lady Pence. Former President Trump and Former First Lady Trump were not in attendance.
This ceremony was historical in particular, as Vice President Harris was sworn in as the first female, black, and south Asian Vice President in the history of America. The Vice President was sworn into office by an oath using the Bible, administered by Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor.
President Biden was then sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. He took an oath with the Bible as well, and it was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. Biden then took to the stand and recited his inaugural address, highlighting that “democracy has prevailed” and that he will be the “president for all Americans”, calling for unity.
The inauguration ceremony was accompanied by several performances by famous singers and poets. Lady Gaga performed the National Anthem, Jennifer Lopez sang multiple American-themed songs, and Garth Brooks sang “Amazing Grace”. Amanda Gorman performed her own piece of poetry on the theme of becoming a better country.
After the ceremony, Biden and Harris participated in many other activities like signing presidential documents, receiving gifts, wreath-laying, the inaugural parade, and a TV special with performances from other American artists.
Biden closed off the event with a rendition of his inaugural speech, leaving America with these words: “As I said earlier today, we have learned again that democracy is precious and because of you democracy has prevailed.”
