With Christmas less than a week away, the Cypress Ranch Performing Arts Department spread holiday cheer through a series of concerts and showcases throughout the week. These performances helped to lift the spirits of every Mustang as they celebrated the season together.
On Tues. Dec. 10, band set the mood and added laughter and happiness into the audience’s hearts by playing upbeat fun Christmas songs such as “I Want Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas is You” while wearing Christmas hats.
“It is one of my favorite concerts we do because it’s our first concert where we’re not in marching season, so the energy is very different,” sophomore Diego Martinez said. “But we can still have a lot of fun because of the unique setlist but also most importantly it’s the Santa hats.”
Wed. Dec. 11 belonged to the Orchestra, which brought a touch of class and elegance with their masterful renditions of traditional Christmas tunes such as Winter Solstice, Seasons Greeting and many more.
“We just do what the orchestra does best, keep it traditional and elegant. Putting the class into Cy-Ranch,” sophomore Brooklyn Nguyen said.
On Thurs. Dec. 12, the choir wrapped the audience in the warmth of the season with their angelic voices, creating a cozy and heartfelt experience.
“I just love the overall atmosphere of the winter concerts we do every year. There’s something so special about them that makes this time of year magical,” said junior Henry Barger.
Theater ended the week off with their annual winter showcase where they showed off their performances from their recent state competition and many Christmas-themed musical numbers, including a unique rendition of “Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claws” from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
“It is a very unusual number to do just because it’s not what you would think of when talking about a holiday showcase, but we’re very excited because there’ll be solos, and every person will get to have their special moment,” sophomore Rahaf Hani said.
Despite the tight preparation timeline, the theater department is eager to deliver a memorable performance.
“We don’t ever really have a lot of time for the Christmas showcase, but we don’t need it either,” junior Logan Rodriguez said. “The vibe is very loose and fun, and so it’s not really about being as perfect as you can possibly be, it’s just about having fun, enjoying the moment and giving the audience a good show.”
From the festive upbeat tunes of the band to the elegance of orchestra, the heartwarming harmonies of choir and the creative energy of theater, the Cypress Ranch Performing Arts Department is ensuring this holiday season is one to remember.
