On Dec. 20, the varsity boys basketball team took down the Wildcats in a 62-58 comeback win to take its first game against Cy Woods this season.
Ranch fought a hard battle against Woods’ tough defense to prevail in its second district game. Ranch started off steady in the first quarter forcing uneasy shots with solid defense. The Mustangs showed momentum and pace, leading at the end of the first 14-7. However, they fell short by the end of the second quarter. Freshman and reserve forward Korben (KJ) Goodwin had a massive block and layup in the second quarter that lit up the gym and got the crowd roaring.
Cy Ranch was down 6 points at the half, but Coach Mason Huffmeister said he attempted to turn things around.
“We made some adjustments at half time in terms of offensive efficiency and then we knocked down some shots, and the defense improved,” Huffmeister said.
“Their defense was tough—I can’t even lie,” senior and starting guard Isaac Saavedra said in regards to Cy Woods’ defense.
Saavedra said he trusted his teammates, and they were able to pull through for a win.
