On Jan. 17 the Cypress Ranch varsity boys basketball team took down the Cypress Park Tigers 48-40 in a tough game that went down to the wire, with Ranch now 17-10 on the year and 6-1 in district.
The Mustangs started slow with Cy Park hounding the ball with their guards and doubling the Mustangs’ ball handlers from the get go. Due to this, the Mustangs found themselves down 7 at halftime.
Both teams continued to butt heads with their hard defense and found themselves in a stalemate during the 4th quarter. With less than a minute and a half to go, Cy Ranch up 42-40, starting Guard Tyler Scheetz drew two clutch fouls, giving Cy Ranch the gas they needed to finish the game.
After the game, Coach Mason Huffmeister discussed the teams’ adjustments.
“We did a much better job of executing and taking care of the ball in the second half,” Huffmeister said. “They’re a good team…I think we locked them down [and] played a little bit tougher.”
The Cypress Ranch Mustangs are facing off against the Waller Bulldogs Wed., Jan. 22 in the Mustangs’ gym. The Mustangs are looking to give the Bulldogs a tough time in order to continue their five-game win streak as well as maintain first in the district.
