Last Wed. Feb. 5, the Cypress Ranch Mustangs took down the Langham Creek Lobos in a 51-38 point game. With this win, the Mustangs clinched a playoff spot for the fourth year in a row with a record of 21-11 overall.
The Mustangs started off slow with the Lobos creating a quick 17-11 lead by the end of the first. Coach Mason Huffmeister knew exactly what to do in order to adjust and keep Langham at bay.
“We did a really good job on our game plan, focusing on [opposing guard Iheirian Harrison],” Huffmeister said.
In the second quarter, starting guard Isaac Saavedra sunk a buzzer-beater 3 to end the half. This demoralized the Lobos who trailed for the rest of the game.
Coach Huffmeister said he looked forward to the matchup with Cy Springs.
“They’re a good squad, [we need to go in and] lay our hat on the defensive end, and I think we’ll be ready,” he said.
With the playoffs looming, the Mustangs are looking like the team to beat. Ranch is on a three-game win streak, at the top of the district and are ready for a challenge. They faced off against Cy Springs for first overall in the district Sat., Feb. 8, at 1 p.m.
