The Cypress Ranch swim team made waves at the District 18-6A meet, held Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 at the CFISD Natatorium, bringing home both the boys’ and girls’ district titles. The boys’ team clinched victory with 191 points, while the girls’ team dominated with a score of 192.5. Head coach Richard Carnicle earned the title of District 18-6A Girls’ Coach of the Meet, and sophomore Addison Combs was named Girls’ Diver of the Meet. She has also advanced to the state diving competition, which is being held Feb. 21-22.
Students and athletes alike were thrilled with the team’s success.
“I just wanted to swim my best as it was my last district swim. But winning the district title made it an extra special goodbye,” senior Ethan Calvert said.
Team members credit their success to hard work, dedication and a surge of young talent.
“When I saw all the talent we had this year, a lot of good freshmen. I knew we were capable of winning. But a lot of it was also me and the other captain, Andrew, holding our swimmers accountable, making sure they’re showing up to practices, putting in the effort,” senior Joseph Leto said.
Looking on the horizon, many Mustangs were excited for the regional competition, held Feb. 6-8 at the CFISD Natatorium.
“I ha[d] some worries but I’m just going to do what I always do and load up on carbs,” Calvert said.
With the district titles secured, the Cypress Ranch swim team is riding a wave of momentum and confidence heading into regionals. The combination of strong leadership, promising young talent and relentless hard work has set the Mustangs up for continued success. As they prepare to dive into the next level of competition, the team is focused, determined and ready to make an even bigger splash.
