On Feb. 13-15, varsity softball competed in the Katy ISD tournament. With this tournament being one of the first of the season, the players took this opportunity to learn more about each other and to build their bond as a team. The games were evenly parred, with a good amount of wins and an acceptable amount of losses.
After school, the softball team would practice daily, as well as before each game.
“This benefited how we played, and we practiced well so that reflected great for the games,” junior Maria Macijauskas said.
According to Macijauskas, she would change the errors some of the members of the team made, so the outcome in the last game could have been better than what it was.
“The most memorable moment was the bus rides there and back because we would all sing our favorite songs and it was very fun,” she said.
Macijauskas’ personal performance, according to her, was decent.
“I could have focused more and batted better but that will come with more practice and time so I will do better next time,” she said.
For junior Darian Bridges, she described her overall experience from the tournament as “pretty good.”
“As a team, I feel like tournaments always bring us closer and it’s one of the most fun times of the season,” she said.
The team practiced by working on specific plays in the field and working on hitting specific pitches at the plate. This allowed them to be successful and win four games in the tournament.
“If I could change one thing about the weekend it would be the weather for the first two days, it was very cold,” Bridges said.
A memorable moment of the weekend with Bridges’ team was cheering until she lost her voice.
“My personal performance wasn’t my best, [but] I think I was in my head about it being our first tournament, and I was putting too much pressure on myself to perform. But then I removed the unnecessary pressure I added on myself and just started having fun and things began to work out,” she said.
“The tournament was really fun. We really got to learn about our whole time because we were together all day. We won some and lost some but it was fun,” junior Rylee Senegal said.
Before the tournament, the varsity softball team actually did not get to practice very much because of the rain. However, that did not show in their performance on the field.
“We had some bad games but the good outweighed the bad,” Senegal said.
During this tournament, Rylee hit her first homerun of the season.
“It was so memorable because I was struggling a lot that tournament, and it was the last at-bat of the day,” she said.
Overall, the Mustangs were happy with their weekend. While wishing for better weather and overall performances, memories were made and happy endings were accomplished.
