The Cypress Ranch High School wrestling team showed unbelievable resilience and determination at the 2025 UIL Class 6A State Wrestling Championships on Feb. 14-15, at the Berry Center. Weeks and months of practice sessions, determination and efforts of grit preceding the tournament propelled the Mustangs onto the mat with a will to leave their mark. Senior Arianna Beltran and junior Angelina Patterson were among the top finishers and excelled in their individual weight classes.

Beltran wrestled in the 107-pound girls’ division and battled her way to a respectable fourth-place finish. During the tournament, she demonstrated her technical skill, strength and perseverance and proved herself to be one of the best wrestlers in the state.
“I think I got this achievement because it was the product of hours of training, conditioning, and perfecting my skills with the assistance of my coaches and teammates,” Beltran said.

Patterson, a girls’ 132-pound wrestler, was equally impressive in her sixth-place finish. Her route to this finish was not an easy one as each of her matches was hard-fought and demanding. Patterson’s achievement once again proved that Cypress Ranch does have depth in its wrestling program and that it possesses one of the best wrestling programs in the area.
UIL State Championships brought the best high school wrestlers from across the state of Texas, providing an opportunity for wrestlers to wrestle on the state level.
“Each match took a lot of endurance, strength, and strategy because every wrestler wanted to win a state title,” Patterson said.
For Cypress Ranch, winning separate matches was a matter of showing the team effort put into establishing a good wrestling program.
Beltran and Patterson’s achievement are proof of the relentless effort and drive of the entire Cypress Ranch wrestling team, coaches and support staff. They paved their road to the state tournament with difficult practice routines, challenging drills and the desire to be the best. There was a group of coaches who pushed them harder, teammates that pushed them to perform better during practice and family members who encouraged them through the journey.
In addition to the individual recognition, their achievements also serve as an inspiration for the underclassmen at Cypress Ranch.
Underclassmen who have witnessed their senior teammates’ success at the state level now have role models to look up to and a clear indication of what can be achieved through determination and hard work. Beltran and Patterson’s achievements have been a benchmark of extremely high excellence for future generations of Mustangs wrestlers, compelling them to try harder and aim higher in their lives.
As the wrestling season is about to conclude, the Cypress Ranch community can hold their heads high. The achievements of these student-athletes are not just a result of their own efforts but of the great wrestling culture that has been created within the school. The achievement this year will surely leave an indelible mark on the program, shaping its future and inspiring the next batch of talent.
