Homecoming Dress Up Week

September 16, 2014

Homecoming Week is always the most anticipated event of the new school year, and this year’s week did not disappoint. From Monday, Sept. 8 to Friday, Sept. 12, the halls of Cy Ranch were awash with school spirit and student creativity. With each day came a new dress up theme, and the students embraced each day with gusto.

On Monday, the theme of the day was America Day. The school colors of blue and gold were temporarily overshadowed by patriotic red, white, and blue. Students donned everything from simple stars-and-stripes T-shirts to literal American flags draped over shoulders. The most daring even showed off their face painting skills by wearing their patriotism over their cheeks.

On Tuesday, everyone was seeing double. The theme was Twin Day, and the best of friends could be distinguished from the crowds by their identical attire. The most common outfit seen was the customary Tutu-and-T-shirt combo, with each pair of “twins” more flamboyant than the last. The outfits ranged from simple identical outfits to fluorescent tulle skirts and wigs.

With Wednesday came the tumbleweeds, as Western Day took over the halls of Cy Ranch. The clacking of cowboy boots (and the occasional pair of spurs) ricocheted off the walls during passing period. Plaid was prevalent, and cowboy hats contributed to the Western atmosphere.

Thursday flew into our calendars as Superhero and Princess Day. Girls paraded around in glittery dresses and tiaras, making the halls seem royal. Girls and boys alike stalked the halls as superheroes, with the ensembles ranging from basic Captain America and Batman graphic T-shirts to full-on, head-to-toe costumes, complete with full-length capes.

Homecoming Week culminated in Spirit Day on Friday, and students roamed the school with the traditional blue and gold get-ups. Face paint and flamboyant apparel drowned the halls, and the school spirit translated from the school halls to the Berry Center stadium later that day for the Homecoming football game.

All in all, the dress up was a fun way to raise spirits for the first school event of the year.
