Golf Advances to Regionals

The Mustang golf teams golfed on Monday, Apr. 6 and Tuesday, Apr. 7 in the 17-6A district tournaments.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams were hoping to advance golfers to the regional competition. Last year’s boys’ team made it to the regional golf tournament after winning districts and were able to send then-sophomore Kyle Hogan to state. On the other hand, the girls were able to golf their way into the regional tournament. Expectations were high for the boys’ and girls’ teams heading into the competition.

The boys’ A team was able to place in second, finishing seven strokes behind Cy Fair with a score of 611. Junior Kyle Hogan had the best score on the team as he shot a 69 on Monday followed by a 68 on Tuesday. Senior Patrick Kelly (77-77), senior Daniel Nunez (82-79), senior Wes Hickman (90-80), and senior Brandon McDaniel (79-85) rounded out the team’s scores. This will be the second consecutive year that the boys have advanced to the regional tournament.

Girls’ golfer and senior Amanda Hill was the only one to advance on the girls’ side, as she placed first as an individual medalist. Neither of the girls’ squads were able to complete the difficult task of having to place top two in the district in order to advance to regions despite great performances.

All together, the teams are sending six golfers to compete at the regional tournament.
