2016-2017 School Year Brings Earlier Start Time

2016-2017 School Year Brings Earlier Start Time

Lindsay Collier, Editor

The CFISD Board of Trustees recently published the calendar for the 2016-2017 school year, and some significant changes have been made.

Among those changes is the alteration of the school day. Fifteen minutes will be added to the school day, with the new start time being pushed back to 7:20 A.M. and school now ending at 2:40 P.M. This addition comes after the Texas Legislature replaced the previous mandate of 180 instructional days per year with 75,600 instructional minutes.

While some students may groan at the slight elongation of the school day, this addition will actually allow school to get out for summer break a week earlier than usual, with the new last day of school designated as May 25, 2017.
