Mustang Football Wins in Thriller Against Langham Creek, Bridgeland Bears Up Next

September 19, 2018

On Thursday, September 12, Mustang Football came out victorious in a back-and-forth game against Langham Creek to secure their third win of the season. Ranch had a strong first half with 70 rushing yards and a great defensive performance.

After Langham Creek came out strong in the sceond half – with Corien Azema scoring a 5 yard rushing touchdown and holding the Cypress Ranch Mustangs to zero points in the 3rd – the Mustangs knew they had to step it up if they wanted to win.

The Mustangs came in the fourth quarter hitting a crucial field goal – tying the game 17-17. Corien Azema answered back with another 5-yard touchdown – his second of the day.

With under a minute left – the Mustangs trailing 24-17 – Cypress Ranch regrouped and came back the on the next drive. Led by Willie Eldridge and C.J. Hardy, two monstrous rushing touchdowns to helped the Mustangs win with a score of 31-24.

Willie Eldridge helps propel the Mustangs to victory with another solid rushing performance. Eldridge ran several plays out of the wildcat formation last week.

The offense wasn’t the only group helping the ‘Stangs. The game saw senior defensive back, Rance McInnis, turn in (yet another) impressive defensive performance – racking up (a ridiculous) 8 solo tackles and 2 interceptions.

With the win against Langham Creek, Cypress Ranch sits on a cushy 3-0 record.

This was a great team win for the Mustangs. Hopefully the boys can bring the same intensity when they face their new rival for the first time – the 2-1 Bridgeland High School Bears. Bridgeland’s starting quarterback, Finn Nicholson, passed for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns in his last outing.

The Cypress Ranch Mustangs will head to the Berry Center (CFFCU) to face the Bridgeland Bears, for the first time in CFISD history, this Thursday, September 20th, at 7:00 P.M.
