The Cypress Ranch High School Symphony Orchestra has achieved notable recognition as a commended winner in the Citation of Excellence Orchestra category by the Foundation of Music Education. This accolade is part of the prestigious 2024 Mark of Excellence and Citation of Excellence awards.
Following their recent success at the UIL competition where they earned the sweepstakes title, the orchestra decided to submit recordings of two standout performances: Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in G Minor” and “Sea of Stars” by Liam Ramsey White. Despite being classified as a non-varsity group, judges praised their sound, comparing it to that of a varsity orchestra.
The orchestra received the news of their victory shortly after submitting their recordings, marking an achievement for the musicians and their director. This honor not only highlights the hard work and dedication of the students but also elevates the reputation of Cypress Ranch High School’s music program.
“The event was a really fun way to bond with each other and be excited about winning another competition. It was fun overall since it was something to look forward to,” senior Chloe Tran said.
