Ranch Survives Scare, Improves to 4-2 in Pink Out Game
October 16, 2014
The stands were packed and full of people wearing pink at the Berry Center Friday, Oct. 10 as the Mustang varsity football team took on Cy Springs in their annual game for breast cancer awareness.
Cy Ranch went into this game looking to bolster their record and keep themselves in playoff contention. On the other hand, Cy Springs was hungry for a win as they only had one win to their name.
Springs struck first in this contest as they drove the length of the field and took a 7-0 lead. The Mustangs answered back with a touchdown drive of their own that included a 70 yard reception by Dylan Proske. Colin Rock scored the touchdown on a crazy play in which the Mustangs fumbled and Rock recovered the ball inside the end zone. The rest of the first half was a mirror of Cy Ranch’s performances in weeks previous. Offense and defense dominated and the boys in blue had a 24-10 lead by the time the Classics came out to preform at halftime.
Springs came out hot in the second half as their first drive was capped off with an 18-yard touchdown reception. That drive set the tone for tight-knit competition in the second half. Cy Ranch continued to hold the lead, but their lead was threatened after a touchdown drive by Springs. Ranch only held a slim 31-29 lead with 6 minutes left in the half.
On the next drive, the Panthers’ defense held the Mustangs and forced them to punt. Both sides of the stadium grew to be extremely loud as they cheered on their respective teams on a crucial drive.
Springs drove to the Mustang 8 yard line, but were unable to get any further as the Ranch defense stood them up. The Panthers were forced to attempt a field goal to take the lead, but a botched snap resulted in no points and a turnover on downs. With a few minutes left, Ranch killed clock and Colin Rock ran for a 50 yard touchdown to seal the win.
With the 38-29 win, Ranch improved to 4-1 in district play, while Springs dropped to 1-4.
