Sophomore Becomes Published Author

Cypress Ranch sophomore Megan Taylor was recently given  an amazing opportunity to have one of her very own short stories published in a children’s book. Taylor is one of five students from CFISD to have her short story published in the book,  I-Write: Short Stories By Kids, For Kids.

Taylor’s award-winning story, The Adventures of Marelene and Pibble, tells the intense journey of a girl named Marelene that meets a strange boy named Pibble, who can transform into a rat. People like this are called “Shifters” and Marlene soon realizes she is a shifter too. Now the two young shifters must hide from hunters who want to kill their kind by escaping through a portable into a strange realm.

I-Write is a yearly anthology of short stories written by children for children. Author Melissa Williams co-founded the Read3Zero Nonprofit Literacy Foundation, the book’s parent organization, in 2009 to give opportunities to young writers who have a serious passion for writing. Each year, 45 young writers are chosen to be published in the I-Write anthology and are recognized at a public ceremony, where the authors and illustrators host a massive book signing event.

Taylor attended the award ceremony at the Hilton Americas on Sat., Nov. 1 at 9:30 A.M.

“I’m not really nervous [for the convention].” said Taylor. “I enjoy that people get to read and like my writing, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
