Review for “The Addams Family” Musical

I have recently had the distinct pleasure of attending Cypress Ranch’s Musical Theatre Production of The Addams Family. Now–take this from a seasoned veteran of Ranch’s shows–the theatre department had, and always will have, the highest standard to live up to concerning their artistry and talent.

All this being taken into account, I greatly enjoyed myself and was entertained on every possible level. The singing, the dancing, the astounding choreography, and flawless execution of the night left me walking out of the theatre in great spirits for the night. This cast is one of the most talented in all the years of productions past and fully lived up to the example set by the likes of Shrek, Hairspray, and Legally Blonde. Each actor portrayed a beautiful warmth, depth, and fragility to the character he or she played which in turn brought great dramatic tension to the play itself.

The night was also wonderfully (post)humorous. Not a lull in the story wasn’t filled with some sort of witty observational comedy or good-natured jab in the direction of the other characters. Kudos to the technical department as well. Along with the flawless lighting and sound, the perpetual spotlight never shown off its target. In short, every facet and detail of The Addams Family was a marvelous part of a joyous and relaxing show.

I have one final compliment to the two wonderful kids playing Tassle and Uncle It. They were both in elementary school, and their wonderfully cute performances tied the night together. The performance of our own sculpting teacher David Clark as Lurch was amusing as well.

If you have yet to see Cy Ranch Theatre Production, I would urge you to stop procrastinating and watch the next musical when it comes out. Go ahead and enjoy yourself! It’s worth it!
