Meet The Vamps

In this boy band-filled world we live in, it seems we’ve gained yet another male British band. However, this new group of boys with great hair and adorable accents seems to be a bit different than the rest: The Vamps write their own music and play their own instruments, breaking the mold of the typical “boy band.”

The Vamps were first formed in 2011 when James McVey (lead guitar and vocals) discovered his now fellow band member and lead vocals of the group, Bradley Simpson, through Simpson’s YouTube channel, where he posted covers of artists such as Ed Sheeran and Mumford and Sons. After McVey and Simpson started their own band, they met Tristan Evans (drums and vocals) and Connor Ball (bass guitar and vocals) and in 2012, the four boys officially formed The Vamps.

In November of 2012, the group signed to Mercury Records and soon took the world by storm.

The boys released their first debut single, “Can We Dance,” which immediately moved to number two on the UK Singles Chart. After releasing 2 more singles, The Vamps released their first album in April 2014, Meet The Vamps, which was titled the 23rd best-selling album of 2014 in the UK.

Since their YouTube days, these four boys have come a long way. Writing their own songs and playing their own instruments, the group gives off a mix of indie and pop. In 2013, The Vamps won MTV’s Brand New award and since then they’ve supported big time artists such as McFly and Taylor Swift.

Their first album is made up of songs featuring pop artists such as Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes. There’s even a cover of “Oh Cecilia,” originally written by Simon and Garfunkel in 1970, which will have your parents dancing and reminiscing on their teenage days.

With musical influences from pop rock artists like McFly, Meet The Vamps ranges from acoustic ballads to edgy rock songs. Simpson’s raspy voice and Evans’ awesome talent on the drums give the album diversity with songs that make you want to slow dance and then head-bang all night long.

The Vamps are definitely a group to look out for in the near future. With a growing fan base and fun, catchy songs, this band is sure to steal the hearts of many.
