Cy Ranch wrestlers competed at the regional event at the Berry Center on Friday, Feb. 13 to Saturday, Feb. 14. The boys and girls were looking to continue the success that they had maintained throughout the season. All 10 CFISD schools were able to send athletes which made this a huge competition.

Both teams exceeded expectations and had multiple wrestlers qualify for the state meet. From the girls’ team, Kaitlyn Banas (95 pounds) and Cecilia Romos (110) finished in fourth in their respective divisions. The boys had Jourdan Mottley (126) grab second while Leo Burgos (113) and Adam Samia (138) finished in fourth place. There was only one Mustang wrestler that was able to secure a regional title and that was Dante Alfano (182).

A total of six wrestlers represented Ranch and a total of 40 students from all 10 CFISD schools were at the state meet, which was held on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Curtis Curwell Center in Garland, Texas. The Cy Ranch teams hoped to capitalize on the opportunity that they have been given this year.

On the boys’ side, Burgos and Samia were able to obtain 7th-8th place while Mottley finished 9th-16th. Alfano was able to advance to the championship match in his division and earned a silver medal. This was the highest a Mustang wrestler has ever placed.

For the girls, Banas was able to dominate her way to a fourth place finish. Overall, the boys earned a 17th place finish and the girls were able to grab a 40th place finish.

This was a great end to a fantastic season for Mustang wrestling.
