Rixton “Let The Road” Album Review
It’s no surprise that almost every teenage girl goes through a boy band phase. (Most likely a British boy band phase, I might add.) Whether it’s their adorable accents or natural charm, it seems we can’t stop falling in love with them. And now we have yet another group to add to our long, long list of boy bands.
Rixton is a British pop band consisting of Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall, Danny Wilkin, and Lewi Morgan. The band was started by Roche, the main vocalist, and then slowly the other boys were added to the mix. Rixton, originally called The Relics, started off by posting covers on YouTube before being discovered by Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun. After meeting with Braun, the boys were signed to School Boy Records.
On May 14, 2014 Rixton released their debut single, “Me and My Broken Heart,” which charted in the US, Australia, and Sweden, and went number one in the UK.
After releasing two EPs and going on a mini tour around the US and Canada in November 2014, the group released their debut album, “Let the Road” on Mar. 3, 2015.
The album starts out with the song “Let the Road,” which has a barber shop quartet sound to it. With strong harmonies, the a capella song was a pure yet brave way to start off a pop band’s album.
“Appreciated,” “Beautiful Excuses,” “Whole,” and “We All Want the Same Thing” are slower love ballads with meaningful lyrics that bring the typical boy band sound to the album.
Rixton’s most popular songs, “Wait on Me” and “Me and My Broken Heart” both sound like a Maroon 5 song with a hint of R&B, which makes for the perfect pop song.
Co-written by the boys’ good friend, singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, “Hotel Ceiling” is a lyrically heartfelt song with a music video that has a twist.
“Speakerphone,” “Make Out,” and “I Like Girls” are more like pop songs with silly lyrics. These songs show off the cheeky side of Rixton, making us love them even more than we thought possible.
The “Let The Road” album consists of strong vocals, meaningful lyrics and the perfect blend of pop, R&B, and alternative sounding songs.
With their newly-released album, big plans for the future, and of course their adorable accents, the four boys in Rixton are definitely soon to steal the hearts of many.
