Baseball Continues to Win

The boys in blue have put on great shows on the diamond. The baseball team currently sports a 9-2 record overall with a 2-0 district record. Their two losses have been by 1 and 2 runs respectively. They have obliterated the competition, undoubtedly due to the terrific pitching staff and respectable hitting.

Senior pitcher Riley Gossett has picked up from where he left off last season. He has pitched 12 and 1/3 innings while giving up a single earned run to go along with 16 strikeouts. Ranch’s number-one pitcher also has a district-low .57 ERA.

Gossett actually was selected by the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association (HABCA) as one of 16 athletes on the 2015 All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team. He would, however, not be the starter when the Mustangs face the Jersey Village Falcons. Instead, it would be fellow senior Weston Brown.

Jersey Village came into this game with a 2-6-1 record with a 0-1 district record. To say the least, they had been struggling. The last time these two teams went head-to-head the result was a 11-1 win for Cy Ranch. This game was an opportunity for the Mustangs to strengthen their already great record.

Ranch was able to start off the game by tallying two runs in the top of the first followed by another four runs in the second. On the other hand, the Falcons struggled to even get hits. The Mustangs added one more run to their total in the fourth. After pitching five shutout innings, Brown was relieved by junior Mason Zientek. Each team scored 2 runs in the final stretch leading up to a 9-2 win for the boys in blue.

Outfielder Elijah MacNamee had a incredible game from behind the plate. The senior was able to get on base four out of the five times he went up to the plate. Three of the hits were doubles giving MacNamee three RBI’s to go along with two stolen bases.

This win keeps Ranch in a tie for first and JV in a tie for last.
