Powder Puff Champs Crowned

Hot pink jerseys replaced the usual blue and gold uniforms as the annual Powder Puff football overtook the football field on Tuesday, Apr. 21.

Powder Puff is typically a flag football game that switches the traditional gender roles on the field. Teams made up of junior and senior girls were cheered on by male students in cheerleader attire. When the game began, the senior girls went head to head with the junior girls after coached by junior and senior football players.

The senior girls’ team, the Huahcanes, were last year’s Powder Puff champions and looking to reclaim the title. The junior teams were Team Vicious & Delicious and the Victorious Angels. Team Vicious & Delicious seemed to be the victorious ones this year—they were crowned the 2015 Powder Puff champs.

“My team didn’t win but playing in the game was still so much fun,” said the Victorious Angels member junior Heather Davis. “None of the girls on our team really knew what we were doing but that just made it even funnier.”

Although the game was a fundraising event for MANE Event, the girls all took the game seriously.

“We actually had a practice where we went over plays,” said Davis. “Our coach was Tate Ryan and he helped us a lot. We even made customized t-shirt for our team.”

On the night of the game, students and parents came to watch the girls battle it out for a victory. The teams seemed to all have good sportsmanship while trying their hardest to score a touchdown for their team.

“I loved getting together with all of my friends and playing in the Powder Puff game,” said Davis. “The rivalry we created against the other teams was definitely one of the best parts.”
