Baseball Advances to Regional Semifinals

Our baseball team lived to play another game this past weekend. The team defeated the Memorial Mustangs 6-2 and 11-3 to win the best-of-three series and advance to the regional semifinal for the second time in school history.

In game one of the Memorial series, we saw a pretty even game—that was, up until the bottom of the fourth when senior Elijah MacNamee crushed a ball, earning himself a triple. The triple came with the bases loaded, resulting in an early 3-0 lead for the Mustangs. Junior Tyler Bielamowicz also gave some help at the plate as he went 4-4 to go along with an RBI.

On the mound, senior Riley Gossett silenced the Memorial bats by throwing nine strikeouts and giving up just five hits on his way to a complete game win.

Game two got off to a less favorable start for our Ranch boys. Memorial scored two quick runs to take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Senior Ryan Leftwich responded by hitting a two-run shot in the top of the second to tie the game up. The game continued on and Memorial added another run to give themselves a 3-2 advantage.

Our Mustangs responded by getting six runs on five hits in the top of the fifth, giving the team a 9-3 lead. After that, it was smooth sailing for Mustang nation as the team scored twice more en route to a 11-3 win over Memorial.

With the wins, the team improved to 26-5 on the season. Ranch will now face Deer Park in a win or go home game. This game will take place at 8 P.M. on Friday, May 29 at Reckling Park at Rice University. Tickets will cost seven dollars.
