Volleyball Faces Off Against Cy Falls
The stands in Cy Ranch’s main gymnasium were filled with students this past Tuesday, Sept. 1. Their voices and chants for our Lady Mustang volleyball team filled the air. Everyone was hyped up for the second distract match of the year for our former state quarter-finalists.
In the second game of the year, they faced a tough opponent in the Cy Falls Eagles. Falls came into the game winning 19 contests and dropping just 5. Their record is good enough to give them a ranking of #38 in the state of Texas. However, our Mustangs were not afraid, as they had faced many talented teams before.
Both teams lined up as usual for the national anthem, and following that the game began.
It was a hard fought first set. In the end, though, Cy Falls nabbed the game 26-24. Our Lady Mustangs then answered back with a 25-21 set win to knot the score up at 1. Moment continued on from the second set and propelled the team to another close set win with 25-22.
The girls then followed it up with an uncharacteristic performance in the fourth set of the game. Cy Falls made a couple of adjustments and they were able to take down our girls in the set by a score of 25-14.
All of those sets had led up to this: a make-or-break game five. By this time, everyone in the Mustang crowd was on their feet and cheering for the team. With every point, the crowd got louder and louder until noise levels were deafening.
Falls was able to cancel out the noise, though, and take the last set in the best of five 15-12.
Despite the loss, our Mustangs played fantastically. Junior Camry Dabney shone especially bright, finishing with 15 kills along with three serving aces.
The team will continue to push on and will face Cy Fair on Friday, Sept. 4 at Cy Fair High School.
