French Club: L’aventure de toute une vie
Walking through the school, there are a lot of hallways to choose from. There is the English hallway with constant poetry and the words of the old pulsing through the area. Or, the science hallway with curious minds braving the unknown everyday. Maybe, the fine arts hallway with the flow of the human soul inhabiting the region. But, the Language Other than English (LOTE) hallway is a mystery. With multiple languages being spoken, new lifestyles being explored, and different viewpoints being made, the LOTE hallway is a unique concoction of cultures. In this hallway, there is always French Club. The Club known to do all of these and more.
French Club is managed by French teacher Lorrie Scholl, who is seen by the students as a role model and is loved by all her pupils.
“She’s been really encouraging,” president of French Club senior Zachary Friderich said. “She facilitates growth as both students and as people.”
French Club does many things including preparing for French Symposium, a pantheon of French-related events, not all of which are academic. With French Symposium, there is no need to worry that someone will be outclassed as all participants are graded to the standard of other people with the same level of experience.
“French Symposium is essentially academic UIL for French,” Friderich said. “We do some testing, plays, art, dramas, music; there is a ton of stuff to do in French Symposium.”
French Symposium, besides being a educational outlet, is also a social outlet, with many friendly outgoing students making life-long bonds. Junior Prasiddi Paudel is looking forward to going this year.
“The best thing about French Symposium is that you get to be exposed to other people who enjoy French just as much as I do,” Paudel said.
French Club is not just an extension of French Class, as the meetings consist of discussions about French culture, including today’s modern culture involving a lot of Gaga-esque styles to the more older French styles from the early 20th century. French Club really showcases a culture most people attribute to elegance and shows us how they have combined elegance with modern elements.
French Club as seen by the members is a wonderful place, who enjoy the club wholeheartedly and had had some of the best experiences in their life at this club.
