Top 10 people to see at Austin City Limits Weekend 2

Austin, Texas, the live music capital of the world, is living up to its nickname by hosting the traditional Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival again this month. Between South By Southwest, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and ACL, Austin never seems to disappoint when it comes to putting on live music events.

During the first two consecutive weekends in October, ACL will take over Zilker Park, located in the heart of the city. Eight stages are set up throughout the area, along with dozens of pop-up restaurants and pieces of creative art created by the concert-goers.

Some headlining artists change over the different weekends, but most return to perform before the 75,000 people that attend the festival each day. With more than 140 performers, it could be stressful trying to figure out which stage to run to over the course of the three days. But have no fear, because here is the best of the fest.

  1. Wolf Alice:
Wolf Alice is a four-piece alternative rock band from Northern London. Their music gives off the perfect vibe of a grunge-y folk sound. They will be performing at 3 P.M. on Friday, October 9 at the Austin Ventures stage. I highly recommend seeing this band before they hit their big break, because I am sure it will be in the near future.
  2. George Ezra:
The charming English singer George Ezra will perform on Friday, October 9 from 7:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at the Austin Ventures stage. With a booming voice and a reggae sound, Ezra will have the crowd feeling carefree while at one of the most famous music festivals.
  3. Shakey Graves:
Alejandro Rose-Garcia, most commonly known by his stage name Shakey Graves, is an Austin native who is an all-time professional at performing at festivals. Being born and raised in the live music capital of the world will surely have him ready to wow the audience, while in his own environment.
  4. Vance Joy:
Vance Joy is among the long list of one-man bands the music world consists of. Between the most common singer/songwriters such as Ed Sheeran and James Bay, Joy may get swept under the rug of talk about male artists that take on the stage with nothing but their guitar and funky hair style. However, Joy ranges with a little more of an easy sound. His most popular song “Riptide” helped launch off his career after the hit reached number 30 on Billboard’s top 100.
  5.  Misterwives
Misterwives are said to be one of the best indie pop bands in the industry at the moment. Lead singer Mandy Lee’s eerie voice, accompanied with a musical band that consists of instruments such as the saxophone, brings together powerful vocals with an upbeat pop sound. Misterwives have performed multiple times this year, specifically at the South By Southwest festival, so this six-piece group should have the whole “performing to thousands of people” thing down by now.
  6. Twenty One Pilots:
Twenty One Pilots consists of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dunn. Together the two have released their most recent album, Blurryface. Joseph and Dunn carry an electric form of energy with them while on stage, especially when performing their most popular songs such as “Car Radio,” “Holding onto You,” and “Tear in My Heart.” The band has a heavy R&B influence that often shows in their mostly pop rock songs, which sounds like it would make for a weird mixture. However, together the diverse sounds create an awesome album and even better live show.
  7. Walk The Moon:
With their most popular song “Shut Up and Dance,” which peaked at number four on Billboard’s Top 100, Walk The Moon is an alternative pop band that will not disappoint at ACL. Their fun, catchy songs will have the entire crowd jumping and singing.
  8. Halsey:
It seems that the world has not stopped talking about Halsey after she released her first EP, “Room 93.” It is rare for a singer to get so much attention after only releasing five songs, but this young and upcoming artist has worked diligently to prove that she is breaking the mold of typical girl musicians. Recently, Halsey released her first album “Badlands,” which she will be performing songs off of at her set during the festival.
  9. Alt-J
Yup, they’re back. After performing at ACL in 2012, Alt-J are back and bigger than ever. Being named one of the biggest headliners of the festival this year, Alt-J will take on the Honda stage at 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, Oct. 11. This British indie rock band will make their second appearance at the festival with newer songs that were not performed in the past years and it is not something that you want to miss.
  10. Florence and The Machine:
Only performing at weekend 2, Florence and The Machine are one of the most classical festival bands. While performing at Coachella this past year, lead singer Florence Welch broke her foot during their set, causing their concert to come to a sudden end. After the break, Welch wrote on a Facebook post that while her foot is healing, her performances will have to be somewhat stripped back. However, now with months of recovery, the indie English band will be ready to take over ACL.
