Football Undefeated in Pink Out Game
The stands at the Berry Center were filled pink this past Saturday, Oct. 2, as spectators came out in droves to partake in the annual Pink Out game to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. Students wore Pink Out shirts and some were brave enough to cover their body with pink paint. Breast cancer affects one in every eight women in the U.S., with 3,000,000 being affected by it every year. These two factors make it important to get the word out.
This Friday night game against the Jersey Village Falcons started as per usual, with the captains meeting in the middle, but this time with pink accessories. Jersey Village won the toss and chose to receive to start off the game.
Our boys in blue forced a quick three-and-out on the opening possession, making the Falcons punt. The offense made the most of this opportunity and drove the length of the field for a touchdown. A pass from senior Collin Rock to his favorite receiver, junior RJ Sneed, to put the Stangs up 7-0.
Village struggled to get anything against Ranch’s tough defense on their next drive, meaning another punt. The Ranch offense capitalized on these mistakes by the Falcons as they got a rushing touchdown from senior Dylan Proske to push their lead up to 14-0.
Another Jersey Village drive resulted in another punt, but this one was a little different. The Falcon’s punter skyrocketed one to the Cy Ranch 34 yard line where return man Sneed stood. Sneed was able to work his magic for a second week in a row as he returned the punt for a hard-fought touchdown.
With a 21-0 lead, the crowd was going wild. This team has enjoyed a lot of success this year, but it seems to never get old or boring for the fans. Ranch’s fans got even more fired up after another touchdown (run by Thomas Gerow) with two minutes left before half to boost the team up to a 28-0 lead.
Jersey Village tried to scrape something together with the remaining time left, but it almost turned into a disaster. A long pass attempt resulted in a district-leading fourth interception for senior safety Noah Offutt. However, time expired and Offutt was taken down before finding his way into the end zone.
The Falcons were able to strike first in the second half, making it a bit more manageable 28-7 deficit. Rock and the offense answered this strike with one of their own, as Rock completed a 7 yard pass to senior Cullen Mostinger to put the Mustangs back up by 28.
Jersey Village scored again on a long pass play, but the Ranch offense came back with an 11-yard rushing touchdown from Terrence Shaw. The Falcons scored one more time, but it was too little, too late as our Mustangs captured the 42-21 win.
With the win, the team stays undefeated (4-0) in district play and remains tied for first with Cy Falls and Cy Fair. Our Mustangs will prepare to take on a struggling Cy Springs this Thursday, Oct. 8.
