The Year of 2015 was full of surprises with many twists and turns affecting the Mustang Nation. Coming in from an almost-state win for Varsity Football, everything was looking up. The entire school body came in after that one win for a strong new year, and what a strong year that was. From a state win in baseball to a new musical from the theatre department, as the Class of 2019 came in and the class of 2015 left, the year was a roller coaster from start to finish.

January

We start our journey in January 2015 with the entire school pumped up on adrenaline following Varsity Football’s journey to state, only to lose to Allen. Coach Bradford was selected as Spotlight Teacher and the Annual Kickball Tournament finished with a bang.

February

February was long, with a multitude of events squeezed into 28 days. Sports improved this month with swimmers making it to State and Girls’ Soccer finishing at first in the District. In the Fine Arts Department, Encore 2015 was a blast with a memorable song list and theme, and the Theatre Gala at the MET Church raised a lot of money for the Theatre Department.

March

March was full of outstanding individuals with Junior Victoria Roubique making Gold at the State Swim Meet. Along with Victoria were seniors Louise Bondoc, Phillip Nguyen, and Christina Rios and junior Mikhaela Sarmineto were announced as Gold Key or Silver Key Winners in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. It is also worth mentioning junior Juan Galipoli interviewed with our newspaper staff to talk about his life as a leader in the Venezuelan political party Voluntad Popular.

April

The month of April was just as hectic as the last with baseball season starting, both soccer teams ending their seasons, five members from the Girls’ Basketball team being named to the All-District team, and golf advancing to region. That along with famous Powder Puff football game and the faculty basketball game, which raised $4,000 dollars for senior Austin Riles. UIL District awards were announced with Cy Ranch placing first in Accounting and Computer Science, and second in Number Sense and Science and placing fifth overall with 155 points. Theatre’s One Act Play made it all the way to Area, becoming the first CFISD school to do so, which is no small feat.

May

May came back with more sports, as softball ended their district run undefeated and moved on to region finals, along with baseball, who also went to region finals. The 2014-2015 school year was coming to a close, as we saw the Classics say goodbye to Coach Buchner. Along with this seniors Kieran Coull, Tony DelValle, and Martin Vila, Weston Brown, Christian Borrero, Kelsey Smith, Devin Stratton and Olivia Kaase were signed to several different colleges to play their respective sports. Onto other subjects, Senior Prom took place in May which was enjoyed by all, and Fashion Design hosted their inaugural fashion show.

June-August

During the summer, 25 Mustangs made the trek to Nebraska to participate in the annual Thespian Festival. Junior Katelyn Arey who went with her church group to Costa Rica to feed the homeless and start on the formation of her club Project Pura Vida, and baseball had a crushing win against the Dallas Jesuit Rangers making baseball two-time state champions.

September

With the arrival of September and the 2015-2016 school year, our seniors left us, and we got a new class of freshmen. Along with a new year, we had a new season of football: we ended up losing by a small sliver against Cinco Ranch but ended up winning our Homecoming game (which is really the only game that matters). Along with the Homecoming game, we had our annual Homecoming parade with all the clubs of Cy Ranch showing off their flashy and fun floats for everyone to see. Junior Anna Norris went on KBTX to advertise her Buddy Walk, an event that raises money to educate about and help those who have Down Syndrome.

October

In October, Theatre debuted their annual performance with Almost Maine. The show was packed and well-received. Football continued through their season undefeated, and the tennis team moved on to region. Additionally, the National Merit Semifinalists were announced with three seniors qualifying.

November

In November, Theatre debuted another musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was a huge success. Football’s undefeated district run took them all the way to playoffs, where they lost to Katy.

December

Finally in the month of December, basketball started up again and they came back champions of the Spring Branch Tournament. The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) students advanced to the state competition, which is a great start to the new year.

The year of 2015 was a blast of random energy every now and then, beating out the entirety of CFISD in terms of memorability. Hopefully, with December being a promising month, Cy Ranch will continue to be reign next year.
