“Just Don’t Fall” Book Review

"Just Don't Fall" Book Review

“Just Don’t Fall”, the autobiography of former Paralympic skier, Josh Sundquist, is not your typical cancer book. Yes, some parts are what you would expect- just plain depressing- but more often than not, Sundquist’s optimistic attitude and good sense of humor will leave you laughing. With his incredible insight, it is no wonder that he decided to become a motivational speaker.

Chapter one starts off from the naïve view of six-year-old Joshua. As he grows throughout each chapter, his perspective evolves to incorporate all that he has experienced. The reader is given the chance to tag along with Sundquist as each moment is described like he is currently living it.

Experience Sundquist’s life as he is diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, has his leg amputated, learns to ski, and deals with the challenges of growing up. The normality of his struggles with relationships and finding where he fits in the world makes his story relatable to anyone. Even in the midst of the drama caused by cancer, young Joshua worries about making the soccer team and styling his hair perfectly.

Sundquist demonstrates his extraordinary ambition by, not only overcoming his adversity, but going even farther.  He achieves Olympic greatness with the motto of “1mt, 1mt” (One more thing, one more time) and inspires others to consider this when they reach for their dreams.
