Construction Students Build Functional House

Earlier in the month of April, the Construction Management class, headed by Tara Cox, built a small house in about a four month period. The house, which began construction in December, includes a functional kitchen, bed area, and a bathroom powered by electricity—enough to allow a person to actually be able to live inside of it.

“This was one of the best things we got to do this year,” senior Daniel Fichtel said.

The tiny house was built by only four students with the help of Cox. The students involved were Daniel Fichtel, Alejandra Miller, and Brandon Lord. Cox assisted in helping the students with the layout and part of the building.

“I’m so glad they’re doing the legwork for us,” Cox said.

In the four months that it took to complete, the students added features along the way that allowed the house to be completely livable, regardless of the size. A house of this size is typically only for one person, but the idea is what makes it so fun.

“It’s completely livable which is really cool,” Fichtel said.

Toward the end of constructing the the tiny house, the students wrapped everything up with added the electricity feature, which allows for lights and TV to be used from the inside. After everything was hooked up and working, the students had finally accomplished an amazing work of art done by so few.

“It was so much fun,” Fichtel said. “I’d do it again.”
