Stevie Nicks Concert Review
On Sat., October 29, classic rock legend, Stevie Nicks performed at The Toyota Center. During the 24 Karat Gold Tour, a band known as The Pretenders opened for Nicks as the pair traveled throughout North America.
Opening the show on Saturday night, lead singer of The Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde, put on a spectacular performance by singing some of the bands greatest hits. Hynde strutted on stage in casual attire, often speaking to the audience between songs. The set of The Pretenders ended after an hour performance, just in time for Nicks to make an appearance.
Nicks lit up the stage during her solo appearance as she emerged from the shadows and presented herself in a long, black drape-like dress, much like her usual attire commonly seen before. Nicks was extremely interactive with the audience, exchanging conversation and letting her vibrant, positive energy radiate upon the crowd. On multiple occasions, Nicks shared the meanings behind several songs, along with other facts or personal secrets. For example, Nicks admitted that she had never sung the song “Wild Heart” live before, however she surprised the crowd by performing the ballad for the first time ever.
During the song “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, Hynde made a second appearance to perform a duet with Nicks.
Although Nicks performed many songs from her newest album “24 Karat Gold”, as per concert etiquette, she also sang “Dreams”,”Gold Dust Woman”, and “Rhiannon,”, which are songs from when she was in the band, Fleetwood Mac. Before performing her encore, Nicks also spoke to the audience about the purpose behind the song “Leather And Lace”.
Throughout the show, Nicks danced through her famous stage twirls while her long shawl spun with each sway. Along with the amazing music, the venue was simply breathtaking. The backdrops shown on stage changed several times, each displaying a variety of incredible scenery. Slides that specifically stood out were the ones including old Polaroid pictures of Nicks throughout her childhood.
The best part of the concert was the warm, uplifting feeling that surrounded the atmosphere. Nicks’s down to Earth nature seeped through the audience as she gracefully belted out each song. Nick’s kind heart was shown when she introduced her musical band. She took time out of the show to recognize two of the women singing in the chorus, a drummer, pianist, and several guitarists. She also shared loving words and personal stories regarding the musicians that stood beside her on stage.
The show was filled with songs from Nicks’s past career with Fleetwood Mac and her current pieces as a solo artist, which caused the show to end around 11 p.m. Before exiting the stage, Nicks exchanged words of her gratuity and love that she felt while performing in Houston, Texas.
