Sculpture Students Create Mobile Projects
Sculpture students have been assigned a mobile project where they have to create a sculpture that appears as though it is moving through color and position. Each student received Popsicle sticks and pieces of plastic to position into certain forms. From there, they had to crest copies of the forms and glue them into arrangements that appeared to be in motion. Then color was added, such as a lighter color on one form and a darker on another to add to the illusion.
“We were given different materials such as wire and plastics and we had to make up our own designs,” Junior student Rhianna Garcia said
The mobile projects had certain requirements in order to be graded as a success. The students had three weeks to work on their project, given “basically just a bunch of wire and plastic,” said sculpture teacher, David Clark.
“Our mobile projects basically just have to move,” Garcia said. “But we also had to mount pieces, which was stressful”
Each student applied their skills in art, creating a unique design to show off their great creativity. Many of the sculptures were rather large and complex and others smaller, but just as gifted. The students put in a great deal of effort and were dedicated to making pieces of art. The final piece of the project showed the students’ work significantly paying off.
“I really enjoyed the project,” said Sophomore Parker Eads. “Since we could all come up with our own designs, everyone’s was different.”
The sculpture students found the project to be an enjoyable experience. Each student was given the opportunity to showcase the techniques and artistry they learned over the course of the class.
“This was probably one of my favorite things we’ve done in sculpture so far this year,” Eads said “Even if it was difficult at times.”
