Hines’s Mug Collection Displayed
From Thursday, Feb. 2, to Tuesday, Feb. 28, Cypress Ranch Art Teacher, Nancy Hines’s, 23 piece art series will be recognized and displayed at Lone Star Community College- Cy Fair. Each of the pieces from Hines’s “Mug Collection” showcase portraits of various people.
“I have my work in an exhibition at Lone Star College,” Hines said. “The 23 paintings are all people making funny faces and they are all different sizes.”
Hines used oil on canvas to create each of her works. The inspiration came to Hines from the insecurities of those around her and how people react when they are in front of the camera. The Mug Collection recreated close up portraits with unflattering expressions, allowing the art to resemble a different perspective on the beauty of those around Hines.
“One of the things people get insecure about is people taking their picture,” Hines said. “Some people smile, other people make faces.”
Cypress Ranch students and staff members have made an appearance at Lone Star to view Hines’s series. Hines thanked those who have given her support.
As Hines continues to teach high school art students, encouraging them to create and pursue their artistic passions, Hines is able to serve as an inspiration through her accomplishments such as the Mug Collection.
