Tennis Dominates the Courts

The Cypress Ranch tennis team continues to have a phenomenal season with both the junior varsity and varsity team achieving District Champion titles. The varsity team was crowned Area Champions and Regional Finalists, as well as ranking exceedingly high in the state of Texas. Assistant coach, Jack Davidson, talks about how the team reached this level of success.

“I push kids out of their comfort zone,” Davidson said. “I expect a lot from them and they rise to the occasion.”

Tournament season is currently taking place in the tennis realm. So far, the junior varsity team has brought home over 20 medals, most of which were first place.

“It has been huge in the district, we are just demolishing,” Davidson said. “We get a lot of people that want to play tennis for this team because of how well we have done in all the tournaments, especially in the state tournaments.”

With guidance from the head coach, Minh Phan, and assistant coach, Jack Davidson, the tennis team has accomplished a great deal of achievement throughout the season. However, Davidson insists that the Mustang tennis players really have not done anything that they were not capable of before.

“I think we really break them out of their comfort zone,” Davidson said. “Tennis players are sometimes very quiet and timid. Tennis is not a game where you can be quiet and timid, we give the players confidence in themselves.”

Through early morning practice, day long tournaments, and outside training routines, the Cypress Ranch tennis team proved that hard work pays off. The Mustangs strive to do their best and constantly push themselves to excel.

“This is definitely the best varsity team we have ever had,” Davidson said.
