Annual Coach for a Cure Game Against Cy-Fair

Shajid Hasan, Editor

On Sept. 28, the Cy Ranch varsity football team took on the Cy-Fair Bobcats. This was the annual Coach for the Cure game, which raised money for the families of those afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The game also raises money for research to hopefully, one day, end the suffering by those afflicted. The game itself was incredibly close and could have gone either way.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a disease that affects the nervous system – making it harder to walk and control your muscles. The disease is incredibly hard to deal with, and is even harder to treat. So far, there is no cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and treatment is limited mostly physical therapy. The boys who came onto the field with our Mustangs were victims of Duchenne syndrome.

Coach for a Cure is a school tradition which happens every year in effort to spread awareness of this horrible disease. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of coverage in the media, and most people are oblivious to the disease. The game helped more people realize – there are people who need help, and there are ways to help those affected.

The game itself was a loss for our Mustangs, but they fought hard for 4 quarters, on both sides of the ball. This game marked the end of a 27 game win streak inside the district, which was unprecedented. It’s unlikely the district will ever see a win streak like this again. All-in-all, the game was an important one – with most of the proceeds going to help those afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
