The Battle at the Berry Marching Invitational

On Oct. 15, CFISD held the Battle at the Berry Marching Invitational. The Mustang Band scored high last year and came into this year with high expectations. Cy Ranch placed third in the competition overall, and won the award for best percussion.

The Ranch Drumline took the award for best percussion at the contest.

“We did really well,” said senior marcher Brenton Lenzen. “It was a really good start to a strong year.”

The band’s show, titled Industrial Revolution, is based off of the idea of a worker’s revolution, sampling “Simple Gifts,” creating a strange, yet refreshing transition. The show starts on a cold autumn day, with workers getting off of a train. Some performers are even dressed up as engineers. Quite a colorful commentary being shown through the guise of a marching show.

Color guard adds style to the show with blueprint flags, as well as rifles and American flags.

“This is the first time we’ve done a show like this,” said Lenzen. “We still could do better, and next contest, I know we’ll do better.”

Outside of official competition, expect Mustang Band to be performing their show during halftime at football games. Band spends hours upon hours perfecting the intricacies of their show, and anybody who fails to witness Industrial Revolution is missing out.
