Homecoming 2017
November 1, 2017
Another homecoming is in the books for students at Cypress Ranch. With the craziest, busiest week of the year now behind us, students are settling in and getting ready to finish the fall semester on a strong note.
Let’s take a look at everything that happened around campus last week:
Spirit Week
All week, students dressed in various outfits supporting school spirit. Spirit Week was a massive success, with a large part of the student body participating in the festivities.
The week started with Matching Monday, where people dressed up with somebody else (similar to twin days in past years). The week continued with TV Tuesday, where people dressed like characters from TV shows. Wednesday was Western-themed with everybody dressed like cowboys. Throwback Thursday (or Kindergarten Day) saw many students breaking out the overalls and pigtails. The week ended with Spirit Day – the student body dressed in blue and gold.
Parade & Pep Rally
On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, Mustang Nation gathered to celebrate the annual Homecoming Parade. This year, the parade included 37 different floats from organizations here at the school. Following the parade, Mustang Nation held a pep rally in preparation for Friday’s Homecoming Game against Cy Lakes.
This year’s Homecoming Court was featured in the both the parade and pep rally.
The pep rally also featured dances from:
The Classics
The Step Team (Golden Divas)
The parade and pep rally were a success for Mustang Nation. Parents and students alike had a great time. Students on Homecoming Court were also featured.
“(Being on Homecoming Court) requires a lot of integrity, kindness, and the ability to get along with all your peers,” sophomore Tori Davis said.
There was also a float competition which featured 3 categories: most spirited, most creative, and best theme.
Float competition winners:
Most Spirited – Volleyball
Football
Ranch Football took on the Cy Lakes Spartans on October 28 and came away with a strong 27-0 win. Mustang Nation packed the house and saw just how far their team has come since week 1. It seems the effort of our athletes and coaches is paying off in a big way.
Elias Pino tacked on another 50 rushing yards, finding the endzone on 1 of his 9 carries.
Chris Castro and Yessenia Luna were crowned as Homecoming King and Queen.
Ranch Football’s next game will be against the Cypress Ridge Rams on Thursday, November 2 at Ken Pridgeon Stadium. Cy Ridge is 1-5 in district play.
Homecoming Dance
To cap off Homecoming Week, the Ranch Homecoming Dance took place on Saturday, October 28 at the Berry Center. This year’s theme, “Under the Starry Night,” took heavy inspiration from La La Land.
All students who attended the dance agree on it’s success
“The Homecoming Dance was pretty good. I had a really fun time” junior Cyrus Uddin said.
The Homecoming Dance saw the students of Mustang Nation come together to celebrate an outstanding week. It’s weeks like this when we’re all proud to be a Mustang. With holiday season right around the corner, it’s important for us to bond with one another. Homecoming reminds us all how lucky we are to be Mustangs, and makes us thankful for all we have here at Cypress Ranch High School.
