“A Walk to Remember” Review
March 31, 2014
Nicholas Sparks has created A Walk to Remember in a truly memorable fashion. This timeless tale, though it takes place in a slow-paced 1950s town, is relatable for any modern teen.
Landon Carter is the epitome of the average high schooler. It is his senior year, he has yet to accomplish much, and his only worry is being accepted to his father’s alma mater… that is, until he begins spending time with the preacher’s daughter, Jamie Sullivan.
Jamie seems to do no wrong. While her elders adore her, her peers tease and avoid her. An old worn Bible is her only companion and anyone who speaks with her is sure to be added to her prayer list. Still she holds her head high and is unashamed of her faith.
When Landon asks Jamie to the school dance in a moment of desperation, he fears a night of boredom and ridicule from his friends. However, he finds the result as a surprise. Through a turn of events, Landon finds himself put in her path again and again, until they form a unique bond.
As their relationship unfolds, Landon learns to see the world through the loving eyes of Jamie. He grows in such a way that turns him from a boy to a man.
