Social media platforms allow users to present curated versions of their lives. This creates an illusion of perfection where struggles, imperfections and failures are edited out. The result of this is a distorted view of reality. Where people, especially teenagers, are exposed to filtered and enhanced images and experiences. For adolescents, this can have damaging effects on their self-image and mental health. When someone’s normal life is constantly compared to the glamorized online persona of others, it can lead to anxiety and lowered self-confidence.
