Reliant and the Houston Texans organization celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Scholarships for Champions program by awarding six high school students in the Houston area with $10,000 scholarships for their work in both school and their sport.
One lucky student chosen for the scholarship is Alexis Crawford, a Cypress Ranch senior who plays for the Lady Mustang soccer team. She was one of two CFISD students selected for the honor in 2026.
“My parents told me that I won a scholarship and a part of the scholarship was just to go around the [Reliant] stadium and take a tour, so I didn’t really know,” Crawford said. “I knew I had won a scholarship, and I thought maybe it would be around $100, but when I saw the actual amount, I was shocked.”
Crawford has played as a goalkeeper for four consecutive years, earning a 2025 All-District 6A selection and 2024 first-team all-region and all-district honors. She is also a member of National Honor Society and National English Honor Society.
With this opportunity, Crawford plans to use this scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina Aiken and continue her women’s soccer career.
“It means a lot because that scholarship is now letting me go to college completely tuition and debt free,” she said. “I’m going there with a full ride, and I’m very, very excited about that.”
When facing challenges this year, she said she worked hard not to procrastinate on her schoolwork and improve her time management skills.
“I tried to be more involved in school,” Crawford said. “I worked hard to better my skill in soccer while also maintaining my grades. It was a bit of a challenge, but it’s all good.”
Over the years, Crawford said she has built a strong bond with her soccer team, which is something she is grateful for.
“We bonded a lot, and I’m really glad that out of the four years I’ve been here, this year’s been the closest we’ve all been together,” she said.
As the year is coming to an end, Crawford is taking the next big step into college. Mustang Nation congratulates her on this accomplishment that not many are able to achieve.
