The Cypress Ranch Mustangs football team secured the 16-6A district championship with a 23-14 win against Bridgeland High School and a 37-16 victory over the Langham Creek Lobos. This victory made a surprising plot twist for the Mustangs who recovered from a 1-2 start to finish district play with a flawless 7-0 record.
After the start to the 2025 season, the Mustangs got on track and never looked back, winning seven games in a row to secure the championship. The turning point for the team came after early losses when the players committed to playing as a team.
The team’s chemistry was shown in the final matchup against Langham Creek. As the team prepares for the next challenge, the players expressed their determination.
“My mindset going into the playoffs is to be determined,” junior Duane Brooks said. “Keep going and don’t let anything get in my way of winning.”
The players were quick to credit the team’s amazing season. Junior Maddox Johnson helped emphasize the importance of the team.
“I worked hard, [and] I’m grateful for my coaches and my teammates,” Johnson said. “I don’t think we would’ve been able to make it without their spirit and support.”
With securing the district title, the Mustangs now shift their focus to playoffs. The team’s efforts to rebuild after the seniors graduated last year demonstrate a strong foundation. Teamwork and resilience will be tested again when going to play Klein High School in bi-district playoffs. The Mustangs’ victory not only shows their place as No. 1 but also can show what can be achieved through determination. As they prepare for the playoffs, Cy Ranch will be supporting its players.
