Something that makes Cypress Ranch different is its unique mentorship effort to make an impact on others in and out of the community. The Peer Assistance and Leadership program helps connect students across the community with local elementary and middle schools to create bonds and offer valuable support and lessons.
PALS members travel to nearby campuses during school hours to spend time with their assigned “buddies.” Members can help engage in multiple activities, ranging from helping with homework and playing games. This program can help build a sense of community within Cy-Fair ISD.
PAL benefits are mutual. While the younger kids receive life tips and positive role models, the PALees can develop leadership skills and develop empathy and deeper understanding.
“I love working with PALS because I believe I am helping kids have a good future, and hopefully I can make a difference in their life,” said Jackson Sandlin, senior PALS mentor.
The programs not only impacts the little ones but often goes beyond academic help to 0ffer emotional support that can help alter a child’s development.
“You never know what’s going on in these kids’ lives or their living situation,” senior PALS member Sophia Tchenko said. “I’m glad I’m able to help make a difference.”
The PALS program sets a standard of sharing kindness, respect and integrity through shared time and connections. These high schoolers are helping shape a brighter future for the next generation. One connection at a time, students interested in getting involved with the PALS program can find more information through their school’s counselor’s office or student activity department.
