Mrs. Amy Healy has always known that teaching was for her. She was a little girl when she found her passion for teaching. This strong passion for teaching is what earned her the title of Cypress Ranch 25-26 Teacher of the Year. 

“I had a chalkboard and had a magnetic thing at the top, and I did letters and stuff,” Healy said. “I was always playing with that all throughout my childhood. I still had that chalkboard up until a few years ago, and unfortunately, it got damaged.”

Mrs. Healy, following in her parents’ footsteps, went to college at Baylor University. She received both her bachelor’s and her master’s from Baylor. She first started teaching elementary students and then moved to high school. For Mrs. Healy, her bond with her students is her reason for teaching.  

“It’s all about building relationships and getting to know them,” she said. 

Kaylee Parker, a former student of Mrs. Healy, graduated early in December to play volleyball at the University of Memphis. Before she left, she gave a letter to Mrs. Healy that she now keeps on her whiteboard. 

She wrote, “Thank you so much for being my biggest cheerleader. You have been so supportive in all my sports and you’ve cared for me, not just as a student athlete, but as a person that I’m truly grateful for.” 

Healy explained that experiences similar to the one with Parker make her love her job even more.  

Junior Junier Bakhit felt there will always be “amazing” teachers like Mrs. Healy who put on a smile and have a positive attitude in the learning environment. 

“I love how positive she is [and] how she always has a smile on her face,” Bakhit said. “Sometimes, if I’m absent, I go and ask her questions. She makes sure that I understand what I’m doing and that I get the help that I need on time.” 

Junior Dhruv Mantri is the president of Future Business Leaders of America, and Mrs. Healy decided to sponsor his club. 

“Honestly, in the beginning of the year, we didn’t have a sponsor, and I was kind of just going across asking teachers,” Mantri said. “She was one of the nicest that I met. She was very willing to help out. From there, she’s evolved into taking responsibility away from me and giving me more time to work on my stuff. Overall, throughout the conversations and things that she’s been part of, she’s been really helpful, really nice, and honestly, just really welcoming.” 

Every student who met Mrs. Healy has held deep admiration for her. From everything curriculum to relationships, Mrs. Healy has met a level of perfection. 

“I try really hard to get to know them. To me, that’s the heart of working with kids,” Mrs. Healy said.
